The Camas-Washougal Rotary Club awarded $9,000 in college scholarships to 10 Washougal and Camas high school students at the Club’s annual scholarship breakfast on June 4. Four seniors from Camas and four from Washougal were each awarded $1,000 towards tuition at the college of their choice.

Thousands of yellow rubber ducks will race down the Washougal River at noon Sunday, July 23, 2017 to raise money for Rotary service projects and scholarships.

Now in its 23nd year, the event promises the thrill of a race, the pure fun of sports entertainment and the reward of knowing the proceeds will support Rotary projects, both locally and internationally.

The race begins on the Third Avenue Bridge in Camas, WA when a front-loader donated by Nutter Corporation tips its bucket and unloads over 5,000 plastic ducks into the water below. From there the current takes over and the ducks dash to the finish line. The fastest ducks down the river will win prizes for those who’ve adopted them.  In 2016, the event sold out early.  The entire community is invited to come to see the Ducky Derby Race.    READ  MORE >

New supplies help students-in-need start the school year right.

The start of the school year just got a little easier for many school children and their parents.

Backpacks filled with school supplies—including pencils, erasers, paper, rulers and more—have been delivered to elementary schools in Camas and Washougal.

This year the Camas-Washougal Rotary Club’s annual Backpack Project provided enough backpacks and supplies for 220 children in need. The donation was split evenly between Camas and Washougal schools and will help bridge the gap for families struggling to purchase school supplies.

Clad in yellow, the leader coasted effortlessly toward the finish line Sunday, buoyant among the screams and cheers from spectators. It was the end of a spectacular journey, one that had begun a few hundred feet  upstream.
